Checks come first

A UK-licensed operator must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or gamble. Most checks run automatically against public records; some accounts are asked for a photo of an ID document or a recent bill.

Source of funds

Operators may also ask where your money comes from, for example a payslip or bank statement. It is part of their legal duty to prevent harm and money laundering. If the question feels intrusive, it may still be a sign the safeguards are working.

How long a withdrawal takes

A withdrawal usually has two stages: the operator's review, which each review in this atlas records, then the payment provider's transfer, which can add one to three working days for a bank or card. Withdrawals normally go back to the method you deposited with.

Rules that protect you

  • Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain since April 2020.
  • Operators may not let you cancel a pending withdrawal to keep playing with it.
  • Your terms must say how your balance is protected if the operator becomes insolvent.
